The Administration Simplification Requirements (ASR) of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) have a major impact on home health care system providers that do business electronically.

As required by the above regulation, MHCB uses the NPI in all electronic transactions effective 1/31/2007.

Also, as required by the above regulation, MHCB uses the following required code sets to prepare homecare software claims: the ICD-9-CM (Vol. 1, 2), National Drug Codes (NCS), and the CMS Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS).

MHCB employs the most rigorous level of commercial-standard security and encryption protocols for home health software patient file transmissions. MHCB uses the SSL protocol ("secure sockets layer") to deliver server authentication, 128-bit data encryption, and message integrity. Client data are hosted on LINUX RAID Servers to provide fault tolerance and redundant disk mirroring. Data backups are performed every 24 hours.
